Notice (formerly index)

This journal will no longer be used for Ghost Hunt translation work.

I decided to move my translations to [community profile] spr . I will be using a different system for ease and a faster output. I am going to re-check the translation up until what I've done now. Chapter 6 and any following translations will be posted at the new place as well.

Hey all, just letting you know I survived New Years, and that I'll get back to Akumu very soon.

There are three chapters left of the first book and I want to get these done as soon as possible. Check back sometime after January 25. Thanks for your patience!

Someone asked me if I pick up the scanlation of the manga (apparently it's stalled), but I don't have the Japanese raws and I cannot read Chinese. Even so I prefer to focus on the novel instead. I'm behind on many things so I'd rather not take up any new projects.

3.4 and 3.5 as suggested

Hey all,

(Yeah I survived the root canal treatment.)

Parts 3.1-3.5 are out and hopefully without mistakes or gibberish. If you catch anymore, please let me know! It's very helpful. :) I'm translating 3.6, but I don't think I can get out today (it's quite long).

As for the manga, I just remembered that it is apparently released bimonthly (once in two months), so that may be the reason for the inactivity. I wonder if there are any Japanese raws or Chinese scanlations around, because chapter 3 should have been out. In any case, don't worry I won't wait for the scanlation group or the manga itself, it would take too long for all of us.

Current state

- 3.4 and 3.5 are done, but need a check.
- Need to translate part 3.6
- Still need to revise some of the weird parts in the first half.
- Survive root canal treatment tomorrow
- ....

If you don't mind, I'd like to wait for the new manga chapters first, before delving into other chapters. Probably most of the readers will want to read the manga first? In my case I like seeing the visuals and so that it gives me some prior information about what's going on in the novel text. Anyway, Chapter 3 seems to cover most of the second manga chapter. Part 3.6 has a scene that was totally left out (involves Saki in particular)... it's quite interesting from what I've read. I haven't really looked into chapter 4 yet.

Technically I am nearing the end of my bachelor program, which means I am writing my thesis this semester along with the last advanced language courses. The thesis and the combined workshop seems pretty daunting, but doable. There's an advanced language course of 6 weeks, starting from February, that will take up quite a lot of time. Even if there's a new manga chapter out, it's very likely that you won't see anything from my side during that time frame.

Thanks for reading my translations and commenting! :)

I'm working on a rewrite of an old story, so Melting Away is on a hiatus. I don't want to mess up the characterization of MA due to the age of the characters. I've realized that MA requires a totally different mindset. It's much less plot, and more about the characters.

Basically it's like this.

Chapter 5: stumbling block
Chapter 6: lots of ideas for this one
Chapter 7: can't wait to write this

They're still celebrating Christmas in a pub by the way.

On the subject of fanfics...

Or more like what I was supposed to do.

This is not a good excuse, but I'm in the middle of having a SAD. I was supposed to have it Melting Away chapter 5 out before today, but my brain is currently rejecting creativity and is undergoing hibernation.

If you didn't notice already, the fic takes place on the date the chapter is uploaded. This means the characters will be celebrating Christmas in a pub.

Wait, why am I writing in my journal?

Nightmare Dwelling 1.3

Nightmare Dwelling 1.1-1.3

1.1 and 1.2 have been revised with a proper version.

1.3 was added to sate your hunger. Take note that it has yet to be checked for errors or grammar.

The complete chapter will be uploaded on Saturday or Sunday!

I quit Nanowrimo due to lack of time, but I managed to translate up to chapter 3 so it's all good.

Unfortunately my laptop screen finally died on me and I can't get most of my files back unless I unscrew the HDD and plug it into some external HDD somehow. However, the good news is that I've got the most important files backed up on Dropbox~ Including the fics and translation. So yeah, learn to use proper back up otherwise you're screwed when something like this happens. :-|

Anyway, I bought a brand new laptop for a nice deal, but I still need to write two assignments and a paper before the 30th of November. The full first chapter of Nightmare Dwelling will have to wait until then.

I am stranded somewhere in the middle of chapter 3. Didn't manage to translate a lot due to physical issues, so I'm way behind on the word count.

One thing I do know is that I need to do some heavy proof reading. Of course. What a mess.

Nightmare Dwelling 1.1 and 1.2

It's earlier than planned, but I have posted the first two parts of chapter 1 over here. There is a total of four parts. It has yet to be proofread, so please don't mind any weird sounding bits.

Here follow my comments concerning the chapter and differences from the manga. Don't read if you want no spoilers.

It seems I have underestimated a few things:

- the homework load for November is too big.
- commuting between hometown + uni is too long
- while not difficult, translating from Eng > JP is takes way too much time.

Since I have to give priority to Uni, because I do really need to graduate this year... I'll make this year's Nanowrimo the translation of Nightmare Dwelling! I suppose this makes me a Nano Rebel.

Nanowrimo Translation Project

While I am translating Nightmare Dwelling from Japanese to English, I'll also be doing a full revision of an old Mononoke/Ghost Hunt fanfic by translating it into Japanese. The outcome will be strange, but I hope it will capture the Japanese part of the story more. ...probably to let it sound more authentic, if you know what I mean. I don't know if I'll ever release the Japanese version, which will be called δΊŒι€šγ‚Š (Futatoori), but the quality will certainly be questionable.

I don't know how I'll cope with this. I will probably hate myself, but it will probably be worth for the practice and better understanding of the story. After this is all done, I will have to translate it back into English again. How's that for self-made suffering? It will be done in romaji, because Nanowrimo word count checker is not very nice to the Japanese language.

Anyway, still a few hours left and tons of homework to do. Argh.
